Matthew J. Bednar, O.D.
Dr. Matthew Bednar, a founding partner, has been with Bennett EyeCare Midwest since its inception in 2002. He grew up in Atchison, KS with his parents and two sisters. Dr. Bednar graduated from Maur Hill Prep School in Atchison, KS and then attended Rockhurst College in Kansas City, MO.
Dr. Bednar graduated from the University of Houston, College of Optometry in May of 1994. In the Fall of that same year, Bednar purchased an independent optical practice in North Kansas City (Mid America Lens) and practiced at this location as a solo practitioner from 1994 until 1997.
In January of 1997 Dr. Bednar was forced to relocate his practice, due to a fire in North Kansas City. Two days after the fire, Dr. Bednar was working out of a friend’s practice in Parkville, MO. In June of 1997 Dr. Bednar merged his practice in with Eyecare Midwest. EyeCare Midwest was an Ophthalmology practice in Kansas City North. At this practice Dr. Bednar worked alongside John Deligeorges, MD, Stephen Wiles, MD, Andrew Moyes, MD, and David Bennett, OD. Dr. Bennet had merged his practice with EyeCare Midwest in 1996. Dr. Bednar practiced with EyeCare Midwest through December 2001.
On January 1, 2002, Dr. Matthew Bednar and Dr. David Bennett formed their current practice, Bennett EyeCare Midwest, with practices located in Gladstone, Liberty, and Platte City, MO. In 2013, Bennett EyeCare Midwest purchased an additional practice in Blue Springs, MO.
Dr. Bednar is an active member in the American Optometric Association, the Missouri Optometric Association, and the Optometric Society of Greater Kansas City, as well as several community and charitable activities.
Dr. Bednar and his wife, Gina were married in July 1992 and have three children. Claire (1998), a 2017 graduate of St. Teresa’s Academy, is currently a student at Rockhurst University. Jacob (2001) is active in the Boy Scouts of America and enjoys playing competitive baseball. He is also a student at Rockhurst High School. John (2003) is a busy student at NewMark Middle School. John’s interests include wrestling, track and cross country. He is also active with the Boy Scouts of America.
